How to care for your violin

The violin is a delicate instrument. Please review these maintenance guidelines as you begin your instrument rental.

1) Wipe your instrument.
Rosin build up affects the instrument sound. Wipe the violin and strings after use with the cleaning cloth provided, especially under the fingerboard.

2) Residue.
Do not apply stickers or tapes to the instrument which are difficult to remove as it destroys the varnish, and remember to remove the stickers before returning your instrument.

3) Temperature and humidity.
Wood is an organic material. Keep the instrument in a well humidified room and away from places with extreme temperatures.

4) Use the violin case.
Keep the instrument in the case when it is not being played to avoid accidents.

5) Bow care.
Do not overtighten the bowhairs. An arc should always be a visible in the bow structure. Loosen the bow hairs after playing by rotating the bow screw counterclockwise.

6) Watch your hands.
Hands contain oils. Avoid touching the bow hairs or the string area where the bow is drawn for optimal sound quality.

7) Watch the bridge.
Bridge position is critical for tone quality. If the bridge is not aligned with the f-holes, or is not standing at a 90 angle to the instrument, please notify us.

8) Listen.
Please notify us if you hear any rattling or unusual buzzing sounds.
